The Derby Fish and Game Club held it's first monthly trapshoot of the season June 10 at their range near Derby Line.  The shoot was composed of three sub events; singles, handicap and doubles.  The combined total was 101 targets.

Jim Spooner took advantage of a high doubles score to pull ahead of Terry Clifford, who was tied with him going into the last sub event, to win first place with a 93 out of 101.  Second place went to Clifford with a 91.  Third place with 87 was Roger Ashman who also used an outstanding score in the doubles to reverse a 2 bird lead by Charlie Cloutier.

Kyle Aldrich took the junior trophy and just a few days earlier he shot a perfect 25 straight in singles trapshooting.  The club gives patches to shooters who shoot long runs without missing a target.

After the shoot some of the shooters shot Protection.  This is a game where partners are drawn with cards to select teams and they shoot from long range as a team.  If the first person misses their partner trys to hit the target.

Another fun event shot was Annie Oakley, where three people at a time share a target and back each other up like in protection.  3 strikes puts you out but you only get a strike if you miss and one of the other shooters backs you up or if you shoot at a target that is already broken.  The last person left on the line wins.

The club's next competitive shoot will be held July 8.

They shoot for practice and fun every Tuesday and Wednesday night 5:30 P.M. on.  All safe gun handlers are welcome and beginners are encouraged to come give trapshooting a try.
