I started my trip to the Seminole on Thursday by scraping ice off my windshield at 6:00AM. To say it was somewhat un-Florida weather is an understatement. We shot the prelim. Thursday afternoon. Along with the cool temperatures the wind was doing strange things to the targets. Many times shooters got 4 different pairs on a 4 pair station. Targets were testy as scores showed. The big dawgs weren`t affected much as the HOA was in the low 90`s but the rest of us had our challenges. Some master class shooters posted scores in the 60`s. I`d say distance was the challenge, as the targets weren`t overly tricky. As is common in this game, it`s not hard to rub shoulders with the legends of the sport. Shooting in the squad ahead of us was Wendell Cherry, and the squad behind Dan Carlisle. Watching them shoot is worth the price of admission. Friday started off a bit warmer and as the day progressed, we even peeled off some of the layers. Prelim in the morning, Phil Hughes in the afternoon. Targets a bit easier as both our scores improved somewhat. Friday afternoon, we were squadded with Wendell, so no clowning around as we are wont to do. Both Greg and I thought we might have shot a bit over our heads as we all got in the serious groove a bit. We didn`t shoot the main event as we feel we get good value for our money by getting 3 prelim. courses for less than the price of the main, and the targets by and large are just as challenging. I saw a number 504, so shoot was relatively well attended. February really is shooting month in Florida with Rhino one week, Seminole the next, followed by Caribbean on the last weekend. Doesn`t get much better than that! Doug The Canuck
